Volunteers are needed to help attendees navigate through the event, assisting with Santa photos, be an elf in Santa's workshop, and more. For more information or to register, please visit the Christmas Tree Lighting Volunteer Registration page. 

The Adopt-a-Road Program offers community members and businesses the opportunity to contribute to neighborhood beautification though litter collection activities. The City provides support and equipment while volunteers donate their time and energy by gathering litter along designated streets. 

Location: Volunteer groups are able to adopt a half-mile street selection. Locations are determined by the City of Tumwater's Public Works Department based on the need in the area and the potential working conditions for volunteers. Assignments are made on a first come first serve basis.

Tasks: Volunteer groups help keep Tumwater clean by providing litter removal and clean-ups along community streets.

Commitment: Volunteers commit to holding quarterly maintenance projects for a minimum of two years. 

Qualifications: Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must pass a NCIS National Background Check.

Through the Adopt-a-Neighborhood program, volunteers plan and participate in ongoing litter clean-up within their neighborhood to help keep Tumwater neighborhoods safe and clean for all to enjoy. 

Location: Volunteers are able to adopt one of Tumwater’s neighborhoods. Assignments are made on a first come first serve basis.

Tasks: With help from a City representative, volunteers will create a quarterly work plan specific to their assigned location. Tasks include litter clean-up and other tasks based on neighborhood needs.

Commitment: Volunteers commit to holding quarterly maintenance projects for a minimum of one year. Volunteers will submit quarterly reports of hours and waste clean-up volume.

Qualifications: If under the age of 18, volunteers must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must pass a NCIS National Background Check.

Through the Adopt-a-Park program, volunteers plan and participate in quarterly maintenance activities to help keep Tumwater public parks safe and clean for all to enjoy. 

Location: Volunteers are able to adopt one of the parks in Tumwater. Visit the Parks & Trails page to check out the different park locations. Assignments are made on a first come first serve basis. 

Tasks: With help from a City representative, volunteers will create a quarterly work plan specific to their assigned location. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

• Raking Playground Fall Zone Materials
• Weeding
• Litter Clean-Up
• Maintaining Park Signs
• Invasive Plant Removal

Commitment: Volunteers commit to holding quarterly maintenance projects for a minimum of one year. 

Qualifications: If under the age of 18, volunteers must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must pass a NCIS National Background Check.

Location: Volunteers are able to adopt one of trails in Tumwater. Visit the Parks & Trails page to check out the different trail locations. Assignments are made on a first come first serve basis. 

Tasks: With help from a City representative, volunteers will create a quarterly work plan specific to their assigned location. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

Tumwater Youth Program would not be possible without the generous support of our volunteers. We are continually seeking individuals looking for opportunities to positively impact the lives of youth in our community. We welcome anyone who wants to share their time and talent to join us in providing this unique program. You must successfully pass a National Background Check and attend an orientation before you can volunteer.

Commitment: Tumwater Youth Program elementary school activity nights are held one Friday night each month, from 7:00-9:30 p.m. Middle school late nights are held one Friday each month from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Volunteers are expected to begin working 30 minutes before the event begins and stay for the duration of the program. Volunteers may decide how often they wish to volunteer for the program.

The purpose of the Tumwater Youth Council (TYC) is to play an active role in the creation, coordination, and implementation of youth and teen activities, community service and leadership opportunities offered by Tumwater Parks & Recreation. TYC will serve as an advisory group for the City of Tumwater and will provide a voice for the youth in the community.

All youth interested in serving on the council will fill out an application, which will be reviewed by Tumwater Parks and Recreation staff. All applicants must live in the Tumwater School District boundaries or attend a Tumwater School District school. Youth will be chosen on their interest and ability to meet the requirements as council members.

Membership can include representation from the following groups:

• Tumwater High School
• Black Hills High School
• New Market Skills Center
• Tumwater’s Home-Schooled Population

Responsibilities include:

• Attending monthly scheduled meetings (to be determined by Council and Parks staff).
• Serve on the council for at least one year.
• Act as liaison between the youth council and your school.
• Assist in community service projects and special events.
• Assist with the Tumwater Youth Program (TYP).
• Assist with implementing goals and activities.

Tumwater Parks & Recreation’s spring baseball league is open to children in grades K-5. The season runs early March thru mid May. This league offers three divisions of play for grades Kindergarten/First grade (K/1), Second/Third (2/3) grades, and Fourth/Fifth (4/5) grades.

Volunteer Coaches: The Tumwater Baseball league cannot operate without volunteer involvement. Parents and interested community members are invited to get involved as a coach and create a positive experience for the youth of this community. Volunteer coaches are needed!
