Community Development

The Community Development customer service counter at City Hall is open Monday - Friday. Staff are available to assist by phone at (360) 754-4180 or by email.

Permitting, Building & Development Review Updates

• Plan submittals and approvals will be electronic, to the extent possible. 
• Requests for Inspections should be made using the online option. Phone inspection requests will only be taken in urgent situations.
• Customers will be billed for payment and emailed the permit documents or Certificate of Occupancy after payment is made.
  • Customers paying by check may use the drop box at City Hall, or in person.
  • Payments by card must be in person at City Hall.

Upload building permit application, reports, plans, and specifications to the online portal. 

Finance Customer Service Counter

The Finance Department customer service counter at City Hall is open Monday - Friday. A curbside drop-off box is located in the parking lot. Staff are available to assist by email or by phone at (360) 754-4133.

Convenient Utility eBills and Payment Options

Tumwater utility customers may check account balances, pay bills, set or remove autopay service, update expired credit card information, view transaction history, and examine usage information online. Utility payment may also be made by phone.

The Tumwater Utility Assistance Fund is a relief fund available to help qualified utility customers with past due water and sewer bills.

Online B & O Tax Filing

File your local Business & Occupation tax using the free electronic filing form

Online filing requires your license # and an activity # provided by the B&O/Licensing Department. Refund requests and prior period adjustments are not available online at this time.

If you would like to file your return online and do not have any of the required information or have any questions, contact us by email or call (360) 754-4136.

If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Fire Department Business Office Hours

The Tumwater Fire Department is open Monday – Friday. Staff are available by email or by phone at (360) 754-4170.

Firefighters conduct free blood pressure checks during business hours unless they are on a call.

Compression-only CPR classes are offered monthly, and fire extinguisher classes are scheduled upon request.

The Tumwater Valley Golf Course is Open

Tumwater Valley Golf Course is open 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week. Tee times can be made 7 Days in advance online or by calling the Pro Shop at (360) 943-9500.

Police Station Business Office Hours

The Tumwater Police Station is open Monday – Friday. Staff are available by phone at (360) 754-4200. 

Online Services

Online services are also available for reporting certain types of crimes, reporting accidents, and for requesting records, including Accident Reports:

Concealed Pistol Licenses (CPLs)

New applications for a CPL are now being accepted.  Applicants must call (360) 754-4200 and to schedule an appointment.

Renewal CPL applications will be processed by mail or in person. To renew by mail send a completed CPL application, copy of current CPL, and payment by check to:

Renewal applications may be submitted 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, in the vestibule of the TPD business office. Completed CPL application, current CPL, and driver’s license or other form of ID are required to process renewal applications. Payment will be accepted by check or cash.

TPD staff can serve one person at a time in the vestibule to maintain appropriate physical distancing.
