The Department focuses on all aspects of transportation, from streets and non-motorized transportation to planning and operation and is responsible for the overall management of projects in the Capital Facilities Plan and the administrative aspects of the transportation systems. Transportation & Engineering works closely with the Community Development Department to ensure that city streets are built and maintained to performance and safety standards.
Transportation Division
The Transportation Division manages and coordinates the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the City’s multi-modal transportation system. The Transportation Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the transportation infrastructure, as well as the maintenance and repair of city-owned vehicles and rolling stock. Transportation system maintenance includes traffic signals, city-owned street lights, rights-of-way and road maintenance, including deicing and snow removal.
Engineering Division
The Engineering Division performs design and coordinates construction for public works, parks, and public facilities infrastructure projects throughout the City. Engineering staff design, manage, and inspect capital construction projects across the City, including transportation, utilities, and parks. This department also manages the review and inspection of private development and the Geographic Information System (GIS).
