Water is a precious resource

Save Water - Faucet DrippingFresh water supplies are often limited – whether by water rights, stream flows or a system’s capacity to supply and treat water. In the Pacific Northwest, many water utilities typically face challenges in meeting the summer demand, especially in times of drought. As the population continues to grow, demand for water stresses the already limited water supplies. It is in the best interest of water utilities and its customers to engage in and promote water conservation.

Water conservation ensures that the resources continue to be available for future generations of Tumwater residents and businesses, as well as guaranteeing that there is enough water available for wildlife and the habitats that support them.

Water customers

From indoor to outdoor water use, conservation starts with you. Did you know a simple drip of one drop per minute can add up to over 100 gallons of water wasted a year? Not only is this a loss of our precious resource but also money from your wallet.

City efforts

Every ten years, the city updates its Water System Plan, which includes the Water Conservation Plan, Water Shortage Response Plan and Operations and Maintenance Plan. Each of these plans guide city conservation efforts with goals, responses, and evaluations.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) requires that all municipal water suppliers set water use efficiency goals through a public process and re-evaluates those goals every six years. The city reports annually on how it's reaching those goals to the DOH through the Tumwater Water Use Efficiency Report and the Lakeland Manor Water Use Efficiency Report.
