2018-2028 water use efficiency goals and achievements
Maintain a 3% annual reduction of water consumption in the single family residential unit.
The goal was to reduce consumption by 3%. However, there was an increase of 3.5% in 2023. Incentives, rebates, education and outreach, with emphasis on outdoor conservation measures, will continue in order to reduce in the future. Irrigation is one of the biggest consumers in the city.
Maintain a peaking factor of 2.
Peaking factor is the ratio of the maximum daily demand to the average daily demand in a water system. The city did reach its peaking factor goal with a factor of 1.8 in 2023.
Reduce the 3-Year average distribution system leakage (DSL) to 5%.
The 2023, three-year average DSL was 7.9%. The City will continue its efforts in reducing losses through tracking of authorized and unauthorized water uses, data errors, and annual leak detection surveys. Additionally, all accounts are metered, however, meters have not been checked consistently checked to ensure they are reporting properly. Renewed efforts such as zero cons reports will start again in 2024.
Decrease commercial water use through participation in WaterSmart program.
Postcards were sent to approximately 75 businesses suggesting replacement of water-cooled ice machines with air-cooled ones. No commercial water users participated in the WaterSmart Program in 2023.
