Tumwater Metropolitan Park District

The Metropolitan Park District is a junior taxing district approved by voters to provide dedicated and sustainable funding for Tumwater's Parks and Recreation programs and facilities. This will extend the useful life of our most used parks and playgrounds, address safety and security issues, invest in underserved neighborhoods, improve energy efficiency, and preserve new open spaces.

Priorities include:

  • Parks and playgrounds maintenance and safety;
  • New neighborhood parks, playgrounds, and restrooms;
  • Community Center with meeting and event space, senior services, indoor sports courts, and land for a future public swimming pool;
  • Trail expansion along the Deschutes River Valley; and
  • Community arts and cultural heritage programs, historic properties, recreation programs, and a community garden.

Proposition No. 1

Community Gardens

Tumwater’s Community Garden support program is supported through the City’s Metropolitan Parks District (MPD). Funding to assist with the development of community gardens was included in the voter-approved creation of the MPD. With these funds, City staff will work with local non-profits and community groups that are interested in creating garden space that will be available to the general public. These gardens may produce food for personal use or for distribution within the community.

Parks and Recreation staff will work with local organizations to assist in funding garden start-up and acquisition of supplies.
