Recreational League Details

Boys and girls grades 2 - 8 are eligible for play. Out of district players are accepted; however, Tumwater School District players will receive priority team placement.

Divisions 

“C” Division: Grades 2 & 3 
“B” Division:  Grades 4 & 5
“A” Division:  Grades 6, 7 & 8 

Registration 

Online registration opens September 3! Fee is $110 per participant through September 27. 

Scholarships

A limited number of A limited number of scholarships are available to those who are eligible. Required forms and 50% of the fee must be submitted by Friday, September 20 to be considered. Contact Parks & Recreation Staff for more information. 

Registration after September 27

Registrations received after Friday, September 27 will be assessed a non-refundable $10 fee. These registrations will be accepted on an as-needed basis and players will be assigned to teams/schools needing additional players. Coach or friend requests will not be accepted for registrations received after September 27.

Health Requirements 

Tumwater Parks and Recreation follows all state and local health guidance. Participants, parents, and coaches must abide by all Tumwater School District health and safety requirements. Parents are required to monitor their child’s health and not allow them to attend if they show symptoms of illness.  

Refunds

Up to 100% of registration fees may be refunded if requested by Friday, October 25; partial refunds may be awarded after Friday, October 25. The amount of refund will be determined by Tumwater Parks and Recreation on a case-by-case basis. $10 fees assessed to registrations received after September 27 are non-refundable. 

Pre-Season Clinic

We offer a pre-season clinic for “C” (Grades 2 & 3) and “B” (Grades 4 & 5) division players who are registered in our Recreational Basketball League; no separate registration is required. We strongly encourage all players to attend, but attendance is not mandatory. At the clinic, high school coaches and players instruct participants on basketball fundamentals and skills.

Please note: Due to WIAA rules, we are unable to offer the clinic to “A” (Grades 6, 7 & 8) division players because they are not allowed to receive instruction from high school coaches.

Team Formation

Teams are formed after September 27. Players may or may not be placed on the same team or with the same coach as in previous years.  One request per participant, coach or friend, will be considered if received before registration deadline of Friday, September 27 at 4 p.m. If requesting two players to be placed on same team, each must request the other. Registrations taken after September 27 will be accepted on an as-needed basis and assigned to teams/schools needing players.  

Practices

Teams will practice one night per week throughout the season beginning late October at Tumwater School District facilities. Coaches will contact parents/players regarding practice information after Saturday, October 19 and prior to the first scheduled practice. Practices will be held at local Tumwater school gyms between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Practices will be either 1 hour and 15 minutes or 1 hour and 30 minutes in length. 

Tumwater Parks & Recreation staff works hard to coordinate gym availability and determine practice schedules that are ideal for our volunteer coaches. Due to numerous factors, including lack of available gym space, your child’s practices will not necessarily be held at the school he/she attends.  

Games

Games are held on Saturdays and some Sundays in Tumwater School District facilities beginning in November and running through the end of January. Game times typically begin at 9:00 a.m. and run throughout the day and into the evening. Recreational League teams will play a 9-game season.

Volunteer Coaches

Tumwater's Recreational Basketball league cannot operate without volunteer involvement. Parents and interested community members are invited to get involved as a coach and create a positive experience for the youth of this community.

Tumwater Youth Basketball - 2024/25 Competitive League

This league is team registration only; no individual player registrations are accepted. Four divisions of play are offered for 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grade boys and girls. 10-game season. Teams need to be comprised of players from one high school service area only. Any exceptions must be cleared through the League Coordinator at the time of registration. $600 per team.
