Tumwater's Comprehensive Emergency Management Program
When it comes to emergency management, the Fire Department is on the front lines of community action beside the other crucial public servants, to ensure the safety of residents during a disaster.
Preparedness & Training
City staff plan and prepare for disaster response, using the Incident Command System (ICS). City staff complete basic Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) training. First responders, management and specialized staff receive additional training specific to their disciplines. Training and public information on emergency preparedness are regularly included in newsletters and community events. The City conducts drills and exercises to aid in the response to emergencies and coordinates response plans and activities with other cities, Thurston County and other counties, state and federal agencies.
Tumwater's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
Thurston County Emergency Management
Tumwater City staff respond locally to protect the lives and property in the City. In the event of an emergency beyond the City's borders, Thurston County works as the lead agency to coordinate efforts of Tumwater and the other cities and unincorporated areas of Thurston County, to direct resources from the State Emergency Management Division and the appropriate federal agencies through FEMA, to respond to needs at the local level.
Emergency Coordination Center
Here in Thurston County, we have a new and fully functioning Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) to help facilitate coordinate mutual aid during any kind of crisis that may arise – be it a natural, or man-made disaster. For more information on the ECC, and the services it provides (while it’s not being used as a disaster headquarters), please refer to Thurston County’s Emergency Management website.
