Emergency Notifications
Thurston Community Alert
Thurston County’s emergency notification system is part of a collaborative effort to improve safety and emergency preparedness in our community.
The City of Tumwater and Thurston County Emergency Management will use this system to notify residents of emergency conditions, or to provide information during a man-made hazard or natural disaster.
Alert Messages
Emergency Alert System (EAS)
EAS alerts typically involve the whole county and are immediate and widespread. These alerts are broadcast on Television, Radio and NOAA Weather Radios. The alerts begin with a loud audible beep followed by specific instructions.
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
WEA are text alerts that can be received on most smart phones and are relevant to your current location, not your home or the address associated with your phone. WEA messages are short and typically alert for extreme weather or area hazards, AMBER Alerts or Presidential alerts of national emergency. You can opt out of all WEA alerts, aside from Presidential alerts.
Public Alerts
Public Alerts provide residents the opportunity to sign up to receive certain types of notifications. Currently in Thurston County, river flood notifications are available for public sign up and notification.
Emergency Notification Public Alerts
These types of notifications typically target a geographic area and include a wide range of alerts including burn bans, boil notices, missing persons and chemical spills to name a few.
Smart911
The notification system also provides individuals an opportunity to create a Smart911 Safety Profile when subscribing for emergency alerts.
