Green Team

The City of Tumwater Green Team was established in 2019 as an interdepartmental initiative to improve the sustainability of City Operations through policies, projects, and staff practices. The Green Team includes at least one staff member from each City Department. New members of the Green Team are always welcome. If you’re interested in joining, contact the City’s Sustainability Coordinator.

Three of the Green Team’s biggest accomplishments in 2022

  • Creating an Anti-Idle Policy for City Fleet vehicles;
  • Revising the City Commute Trip Reduction Policy; and
  • Compiling and releasing the 2021 Annual Green Team Sustainability Report.

Green Team Plans for 2023

  • Establishing an Environmentally-Preferable Purchasing Policy;
  • Composting at City Facilities and special events;
  • Adding Battery Recycling to the annual City Clean-Up, Drop-Off event;
  • Conducting an Electrification Assessment of the City Fleet; and
  • Drafting edits to the City Travel Policy to encourage lower carbon modes of travel and providing guidance on purchasing offsets when air travel is required.

Composting

Many City projects are required by state law to utilize compost products. Submit this form for project review to ensure your project is in compliance with this requirement. Water Resources & Sustainability staff will respond to your submittal.
