In addition to managing recruitment for Tumwater city employee positions, Administrative Services provides labor/employee relations and supports the Civil Service Commission which administers civil service laws covering career police officers and firefighters.

Job openings

Visit job openings for current recruitment opportunities. The City uses an online service for all recruitment activities. Application materials for City employment opportunities must be submitted online. The recruitment system is provided by governmentjobs.com (NeoGov).

Applicants are required to create a personal account. Applications are only accepted for open positions. Recruitment information for police officers and firefighters is also available.

Complete a job interest card to be notified when a position of interest is open for recruitment.

Labor relations & negotiations

The City negotiates collective bargaining agreements (CBA) with the Tumwater Police Guild, Tumwater Firefighter Local #2409, and Teamsters Local #252.

Civil Service Commission

The Tumwater Civil Service Commission is established by state statute to administer civil service law, which covers all full-time career Police and Fire Department employees. Find meeting records and more information by browsing to Civil Service Commission

Intern program

The City of Tumwater provides learning opportunities through internships for students seeking experience in municipal government services. A college-level intern program is available.

Employee safety

The Central Safety Committee reviews safety concerns within the City organization and makes recommendations for training and reducing employee risk within the organization. Traffic and pedestrian safety concerns are reviewed by the city’s Traffic Team.
