The City of Tumwater’s Tree Board hosts an annual celebration of Arbor Day. Generally, the celebration takes place at the Tumwater Timberland Library and includes free tree related give-away items, activities for kids, and tree planting and care information. The Tree Board provides a selection of tree species and guests can choose a free seedling to take home and plant.

Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska in 1872, when J. Sterling Morton proposed that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday is now observed throughout the world, to celebrate the many benefits of trees.
